How to Compute the Score for the Student Product Scoring Guide

There are two choices for scoring with the Student Product Scoring Guide, depending on whether you want the score to equal 100 or chose to leave the score cells blank:

  1. If you chose to have the score equal 100:

Under "Actual Score," write in the appropriate number from 5 (Exemplary) to 0. Multiply the score by the number in the "Weight" column. Put this number in the column marked "Total Points."

Screen shot showing that weight x actual score = total points.

If a student has a perfect product, the final score will total 100 (50 points for Part I, 50 points for Part II).

  2. If you chose to leave the score cells blank:

The "Weight" column will be empty. Under "Actual Score," write in the appropriate number from 5 (Exemplary) to 0. The total amount of "weight" in the weight column for Parts I and II combined should equal 20. Divide the weight any way you want as long as the total in the weight column equals 20. Multiply the weight box by the actual score, and write in the total points for each category.
