Prior Learning, Interests, Misconceptions, and Conceptual Difficulties
Prior learning:
Students must have an understanding of the six components any ecosystem needs to sustain a natural balance before beginning this unit.
Misconceptions:
Students often place plants and animals in inappropriate ecosystem models without understanding why particular species survive in particular conditions.
Conceptual difficulty:
Students are often careless or give incomplete answers when they are asked to make observations during science inquiry. This unit will encourage them to be more careful and thorough with their observations.
