Prior Learning, Interests, Misconceptions, and Conceptual Difficulties
Students must be familiar with search engines on the Internet; possess a workable knowledge of search strategies involving both print and nonprint material and subject headings to find information; and understand the definitions of "sustainable agriculture," "herbicides," "pesticides," "organic farming," and "pre-emergence." Companies that manufacture herbicides--such as Monsanta, Cyanimid, Dow, Pfizer, Shell, etc.--are useful resources and can be used as subject headings for Internet search engines in order to find information on herbicides.
Prior knowledge of chemicals used and chemical ratios is not necessary to this unit.
