Management

Students will work with writing partners for all of these activities. It would be best to keep the same partners for all three of the activities. The partner assignment will be heterogeneous.

Most of the work for this unit will be done in the classroom. Students will need to have the freedom to move to the lab or computers as needed to complete activity three.

If I did not have access to a projection system, I would do activity one by having partners take three- to five-minute turns at the computer viewing the pictures. While doing this, students can generate descriptive phrases to be used during the class brainstorming. This could be done while the whole class is working on a different project. For activity three, students could do the viewing on their individual computers in the lab during the prewriting phase. Since the viewing is the focus of that part of the process, I would still have them record their descriptive phrases on notecards.

If you do not have a computer for each student, the catalog could be done in pairs or small groups. If you have the students work in pairs or groups on the authoring, each student should be required to author and sign one or more portions of the catalog.
