Extensions and Adaptation

These activities could be used with any visual images in any subject area. Students could be asked to focus on any details that were relevant to the desired learning.

These lessons could be adapted to any grade level by asking for fewer or more details, depending on student abilities.

Visit a museum or gallery in your area, and do the activities with actual pieces of art. Extend into three-dimensional pieces.

Have students paint pictures in art class, make a catalog of your class exhibit, and invite parents to your class art show.

Offer to create a catalog for a high school exhibit.

Move from these activities, where students are using pictures to help write descriptions, to visualization and descriptions of mental images.
