Prior Learning, Interests, Misconceptions, and Conceptual Difficulties
Geography has been identified as a weak point among many K-12 students. This lesson will help students identify key geographical points in North American geography. Specifically, by the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify north, south, east, and west on a map and the location of the Mississippi River and Mississippi River cities and states.
Understanding the differences in musical styles is a conceptual challenge for many middle school students. Specifically, the ability to distinguish between blues and jazz can be a challenge for most middle school students. This lesson will give students a greater understanding of these musical styles through greater exposure to them (i.e., listening, reading, and visual aids). By the end of the lesson, students also will be able to identify syncopated rhythms.
