As of September 30, 2005, the North Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium is no longer in operation.
The activities of this unit involve working in large and small groups. The small groups work at the computer while the rest of the students work at centers, play a game of "states of matter" bingo, write in their journals, reading, etc.
Any student who is not familiar with the Internet can be paired with a peer who has more advanced computer skills, a volunteer, an older student helper, or an aide.
Students with more advanced skills can be challenged to create more advanced hidden pictures. They also can do more advanced searches for pictures to add to the collection of the states of matter.
You could cover this activity in less time by presenting all three states of matter in one day and assigning the small groups to find examples of each -- solid, liquid, and gas -- during their sessions at the computer.
Special need students could participate in whole-group activities and then complete their follow-up projects with their resource teachers or aides.
