The field of genetics is growing rapidly, providing us with more information about human genes and the genes of other life forms that affect our lives. As future consumers and parents, it is important for students to understand how genes move from generation to generation and how the resulting combinations of genes affect our characteristics and the characteristics of any life form. After following some of their own traits and added hidden lethal traits through a simulation of meiosis and fertilization to create an imaginary child, the students will have the opportunity to develop questions for investigation that they will discuss and research with groups of students who have similar interests.
