3. Do you think that students understand the connection between the GED and this project? Do you discuss this, and, if so, how?

Everything we do in the GED class is connected to preparing to pass the GED exam. This is thoroughly presented to the student, and throughout the problem the student is reminded how, in fact, this is connected to helping them prepare for the GED, among other things. Plus, it has been my experience that if adults aren't finding something in it for them--if they don't have some sort of a stake in it or they don't buy into that it's going to be helpful to them-- then they won't participate. So it's kind of like a salesman job. The teacher has to sell the student on [the fact that] there is a connection; and once they're sold, the cooperation to perform the pieces of the problem is there.
