1. How do you deal with students coming to or leaving the class during this project?
This isn't the problem that you think it would be because it's not a "start
at point A and move to point B and move to point C" kind of exercise.
People can come in on any particular day and receive the project
package and look it through, look it over, decide what part they're
interested in pursuing, decide how they are going to manage putting
the whole thing together, what their goals are going to be, what
they'll do first, scheduling themselves. I suppose it would be a
problem if we had some field trips scheduled and they weren't able
to be in place to go on the field trips. [The field trips] are an
integral part of the project toogoing into the community and
exercising some of the skills that they've been developing and critiquing
some of the local restaurants around town. Now, it might be problematic
if they weren't around to do that because that's a nice hunk of
the problem. We hardly ever have anyone miss on the days when we're
doing to go take lunch somewhere and critique a restaurant.
