1. Do learners have to meet some entry level requirements, and how was readiness determined?

Crystal: There were specific requirements because we were dealing with the Department of Human Services and the Welfare to Work programs. They had to be Illinois Job Advantage clients in order to qualify for the class.

Originally the ability levels were set to be 9th to 12th grade ability levels in order to get into the classroom. Tests were done and the people that were let into the classroom had supposedly 9th to 12th grade ability levels. But from informal observation and just looking at classroom work produced, the other instructor and I feel like the classroom group reflected more of a 4th grade through 12th grade ability level than a 9th grade through 12th grade.
