1. How was the Mars Project chosen?

The Mars Project was chosen from a list of electronic field trips. It was being produced by Passport to Knowledge, the National Science Foundation, and NASA. I knew that its quality would be good. I was looking for something that would be of interest to adult learners. We knew that the Mars Pathfinder was due to land in a few months, so it would be a topical kind of subject- something that would be ongoing. And also, it looked like it would be something with which we could practice a variety of math skills, large numbers, scientific notation, things like that. Those are skills that are measured to some extent on the GED math exam.
