1. How much staff development time would be needed for novice teachers to gain the expertise needed to facilitate this activity?

Novice teachers or other people who have not used the Internet would need at least enough staff development time to feel comfortable themselves in sitting in front of a computer navigating around a Web page. So a workshop that introduced a novice teacher to those basic factors would certainly be important. A lot of the other learning really takes place alongside the learners in the program, as I said: a sense of discovery in going from one another. But I would think a novice teacher would have to feel comfortable herself in using the technology and in having some practice in using a mouse and understanding what links are on Web pages and how that works. I don't think that it's necessary to really understand the background technology on which Internet-based resources and Web sites are based.
