1. How do you decide what questions to ask students for their family histories?

I use whatever textbook I have at the time. There is no one textbook that's good for beginning ESL, but every textbook has a unit on the family. And so first we study the unit, and the questions that I ask are developed from the types of things that are studied in the unit. For every textbook I would probably come up with a slightly different list of questions.
