2. Did you ask students to articulate their goals with respect to the project and if so, what were their goals?

I sort of have a set curriculum. I didn't ask the students if they wanted to write a story. I told them we were going to write a story. Because they don't know any English at all, the first unit that we study is personal information and information about the family. For me the project is a way of the student showing that they know that vocabulary by using it in a real life situation. So I didn't ask them to articulate their goals. They were able to write anything they wanted to write and quite often students would write the story that was meaningful to them. I guess in a sense that was articulating their goals.
