3. Have you made any comparisons of learning outcomes
using this model versus a more traditional or lecture model or what
you used to do?
I always taught a unit on historical fiction in the past and when
I was given the opportunity to use the Internet as a tool, I guess
the differences I saw iswell, number one I taught it totally
differently using technology because I moved away from being the
lecturer to being the coach. Students were empowered instead of
myself being empowered, which was much more motivating for my students,
and I found that they went much further than they ever did because
the interest was self-generated. Plus it was interactive; they were
communicating with people. It was more globalized. Instead of the
students walking away with facts about World War II, they walked
away with an understanding of conflict and how conflict is resolved
and how conflict sometimes isn't resolved. And what they learned
was much higher level because they were involved in it [more] than
the basic knowledge, lower-level learning, and I think that is the
big comparison.
