2. What skills/knowledge does a teacher need to possess in order to do this project?

I think the key is to walk into it with the idea that you are going to learn along with your students. And some of the teaching is going to come from your students. Your role is to teach the students the skills they need to learn about the topic area, and to communicate what they have learned about the topic area, and to produce something that proves to other people that they have learned about a specific topic area. So as a teacher, those are things we are licensed to do so we all know how to do that. So I guess the only skill we need to do is be a good teacher. The rest is to be open enough to realize that sometimes you don't have to be an expert in the area your students are working in.
