20. Was there more than one instructor for the unit?
I was the main teacher, or the main driving force for what the
students were doing, but they also had a social studies teacher
who was willing to adapt what he was doing with the European geography
to making links with what my students were doing. He also was willing
to work with them in the latitude and longitude during that time
period instead of a different time period in the year because we
wanted to map out some of the traveling that was happening in the
books with the children, and so it was important that they had that
skill. So he worked very closely with my students in those areas,
and then I just reinforced it. And I think when you put your students
on the Internet and you give them opportunity to communicate through
a listserv or through e-mail or whatever, you end up with thousands
of teachers in your classroom. I can say for this unit I had a Croatian
soldier as a teacher, I had a London school boy as a teacher, I
had an American bomber as a teacher, and so on. Anybody who communicated
with the students, including the assistant superintendent, were
teachers in my classroom.
