19. How did parents get involved?

Most of the parents were involved based on taking their students to the library and helping them learn how to access nonfiction materials. Some communicated stories that they had been told by their parents about living during World War II. There were some that had come from other countries. Or their parents had come from other countries during that time period, and they shared that information with their children about what it was like leaving. Some even checked out stories that they had read as children. There were a couple of parents who took their children to an Anne Frank exhibit that was in the city at that time. So parents became very involved and interested in what the students were learning.
