2. Did students have input into what is studied?

Always. It is not so much the theme that we are learning that I control as the curriculum process areas that they need to learn, like critical thinking or critical reading, or the reading process or story structure. All those things can be taught under whatever theme the students want to learn under, and that is something I always assess at the beginning of the year to find out what my students are interested in so that I can pull whatever out of the bag that they can work on. So that is very student-generated.
