1. What went before and after this unit?

The students had been reading other novels, not historical fiction, but real-life fiction where they had been learning about characterization and story structure; and this was just another genre that they were practicing that in. After this unit, the students became interested and involved in what was happening in Bosnia, Sarajevo, and their current events areas, so they were bringing in newspaper articles and looking at how the United States and other countries were involved in that conflict that was happening today.
