2. How does the use of the Internet improve the students' literacy skills?
The Internet, for all those beautiful pictures and glitzy things on it, is still largely text based. You have to read a lot in order to use the computer successfully and the Internet successfully. The more you read the better the literacy gets, and when you're reading something that you really need to know in order to do a task that you want to do, you have additional motivation.
