5. How would this lesson be adapted for an ESL class where all the students are from the same country?
There are a couple of ways. If it is a large country like Mexico, we can divide into regions. Different towns have different histories and traditions that students may bring up. Families have their own customs and traditions, which is another way to look at culture. So even in those cases where there's a lot of familiarity, there is enough variation to keep people interested. Another thing that I've found very often happens is that it's people from the same country who respond very well to presentations about the country. They like hearing about things that they know about in English. I think the lesson could easily be adapted into other areas where you can interview and find out about other cultures or you could take a different topic where people are simply talking about areas of interest to them and have the same kind of presentation.
