What I liked best about this project was the way the students
interacted and worked well with each other. Not to say that there
weren't a few group problems. I liked the project because I saw
the students improve as they went from city to city on their ability
to gather information and use the computer to gather and research
information. I liked this unit, because it was one of the first
times that the students got to evaluate each other. After each city
the students did a self-evaluation, and then I would call the group
together and discuss. I did an anonymous evaluation. Then I would
call them together and I asked questions, "Who worked the hardest
in the group? Who worked the least?" Because they didn't have their
names on it, they were very free with the information. For the first
time for some students, they had to realize that they weren't holding
up their share. Other people knew it. I think a lot of them know
when they are slacking off, but it is a first I never realized that
other people see it, too. You could see some growth from that in
kids' attitudes about working and feeling free to say, "Hey, you
are not doing your share, and I don't like it," so in expressing
themselves. I just think it was a really good learning experience
for a lot of my students. I just like to see that.
