1. What are live transmissions?

Live transmissions on electronic field trips are broadcasts from remote sites. These are carried, usually live, sometimes tape delayed, over participating public broadcasting stations and also compliments of NASA TV. For the instructor it is a matter of arranging to either look at a PBS station or get an educational service district or a local community college or some other educational setting to have that broadcast over a television in a classroom or in another setting. They can be certainly viewed later but it is exciting to be sitting there and to watch what is going on at the moment. The electronic field trips, like regular physical field trips and scientific field research, really are subject to weather and unforeseen events, so they can be very exciting to watch.
