Administration

To access the Administrative functions of the software, click on the "Admin" button on the log-in screen. You will need to enter a password to proceed. The password is "horsefeathers". On this version of the software, the password is not changeable.

Once the password is entered correctly, you are given three choices:

1. Merge Data.

Merge Data allows you to build a custom composite file so that you can compare ratings for different groups. This feature allows you to compile average ratings for your school, district, or any group you choose to create. For instance, you could group the Math department into one composite file, and the Science department into another composite file.

To use this feature:

  1. First create a new composite file (step #2 below), and give it a meaningful name (math. txt, science. txt, etc.). Of course, if you're continuing with a file you created previously that already has merged data in it, you don't need to do this step.
  2. Select the Merge Data button. The first dialog box you see will ask you to locate the group composite file that is to be updated (math. txt, science. txt, etc.). Navigate to the file and double-click or select OK to continue.
  3. The next dialog box you see will ask you to locate individual data files to be merged with the composite file you selected in step "b". These files could be located on floppy disks, a hard drive, or a network file server, for instance. Navigate to the file( s) and double-click or select OK to continue. The dialog box will continue to appear so that you can continue to select files to be merged. When you are done merging files, just select Cancel.

2. Create a new, empty composite file.

This allows you to create a new composite, which you would do before merging ratings. You could, for instance, use this feature to create a composite file called "Math. txt," and then merge all math scores by following step 1 above.

3. Set a standard location for the composite file.

This allows you to set the location for the composite file so that everyone running the software will have their score averaged into one centralized composite file. This is pri-marily designed for networked users to save data to a file server location. If no standard location is set by an administrator, the composite file that is in the same folder as the application will be used. If no composite file can be found, one will be automatically created for a user when they are done with a rating.

To use this feature,

  1. First create a new empty composite file (# 2 above)
  2. Quit the software and go to the Finder or File Manager.
  3. From the Finder or File Manager, copy the new composite file to the new location.
  4. Restart the program and return to administrative options.
  5. Select #3 (Set standard location for composite file).
  6. Navigate to the new location that you copied the composite file to, and select the composite file.
  7. Now all users who use the tool AT THIS COMPUTER will have their data mergedwith the central composite file.

IMPORTANT: If you install this software on other computers, follow steps "d" - "f" above so that their data is also saved to the standard location that you just set.

NOTES: Do not load data files into a word processor for viewing, you may corrupt the files making them unusable. You should use the ". txt" extension for all file names to ensure cross-platform compatibility.
